Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming journalism, reshaping how news is gathered, processed, and disseminated. This study explores the evolving role of AI in newsrooms, drawing on recent global and African case studies. It examines how AI enhances efficiency through automation, data analysis, and personalization, while also raising concerns about misinformation, ethical accountability, and newsroom dependency on tech platforms. Using social responsibility theory as a guiding framework, the study analyzes current practices and proposes a balanced approach to AI integration that safeguards journalistic integrity and public trust. Study findings reveal that, while AI offers valuable tools for improving efficiency and reach, it must be implemented responsibly to uphold journalistic integrity and public trust. Furthermore, this study advocates for a balanced integration of AI and human expertise. It underscores the importance of maintaining editorial standards, critical thinking, and ethical accountability in a technologically advanced media environment. The study findings aim to inform students, educators, and media professionals about the opportunities and limitations of AI in journalism, contributing to a more thoughtful and responsible use of technology in mass communication.
